Working Spring Fashions Into Your School Dress Code

School is a drag and sometimes, the school dress code can be even more of a drag. You want to look stylish and trendy but there are certain rules that must be followed when going to school for the day and your style needs to conform a little. There is no need to worry about that with this year’s spring fashion trends. It’s no longer about how short your outfits are and it’s all about themes, colours, and patterns. These looks make it easy to wear something that is super-hot and that you’re school won’t see as a super-not.

Safari is a very hot theme this year. Think khaki, buttons, and cargo pockets. Pair a safari jacket with brown pants or shorts and don a stylish safari hat to be the hit of the class! Another very hot theme is the global theme. This look takes its roots from African and Middle Eastern culture so you want to mix many bright colours in the same ensemble. Something such as a knee length dress with brightly coloured circles or a simple brown skirt with African designs along the hemline, paired with a silk jersey top with the same global theme but a different design such as short white slash marks against a black and bright blue background.

Preppy is always in it seems and that is still true this year. Wear a collared button-up blouse underneath a light, solid colour V-neck sweater and pair them both with a pair of solid colour, straight pants. Forego the penny loafers (because those actually did meet their demise in the 80s) and exchange them for a white sneaker. This gives the preppy a little edge and will take the style up to the next level. Other themes that are very popular this year are nautical, floral, and punk.

Another way to make a bold statement at your school this year is through patterns and prints. Where they were once taking a back seat to solid and simpler colours, now you almost can’t go wrong if you were something that has the pattern to add a little pizzazz. For the trendiest patterns try zebra prints, leopard prints, flowers, retro prints, ethnic prints, stripes, stars, rosettes, and plaids. Anything with large shapes, such as circles, dots, ovals, and lines are also very hot and can be put on just about anything to make it super trendy and stylish!

Just as you can wear just about any print or pattern, you can also wear just about any colour. This year, colours are all the rage and there’s nothing you can do wrong! In fact, this year the bolder the colour is the better. The hottest colours that you’ll see emerging this spring are yellows, oranges, bright greens, bright reds, fuchsia, violet, and bright blue. To tie into the nautical theme try pairing red, white, and blue together to make a great outfit. Because neutral colours never go out of style, you may want to mix the tones by wearing dark pants, a white shirt and bold red shoes.

With all of the choices coming out for this year’s spring fashions, you really can wear just about anything. There are so many choices that whichever you feel fits your own personal style, it most probably is in style this year!
